We had a special treat on Friday afternoon when the incredibly talented Orchestra of the Swan visited our care home.
The Orchestra of the Swan is a chamber orchestra with residencies at the Birmingham conservatoire and at Hereford’s centre for the arts, ’The Courtyard’. They regularly play throughout the country, especially in Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Cheltenham and Pershore.
As well as boasting some seriously talented muscians, the Orchestra of the Swan believes passionately in the accessibility of music and how music can have a therapeutic impact on individuals living with Dementia, PTSD and a range of cognitive conditions. To this end, the musicians take time out of their busy performance schedules to visit local care homes, such as our own, to stage inclusive productions for residents.
On their visit, Martha-Ann and Philip from the orchestra delighted us each with talented renditions on the oboe and trombone. We all joined in with a wonderful sing-a-long and some of us even had a bit of a dance.
It was a really uplifting experience. After all, how many people can say they’ve enjoyed a live orchestral production from their own living room? Thank you Orchestra of the Swan, it was an absolute privilege to welcome you to our care home and we look forward to seeing you again next month for another concert. We can’t wait!
