Cedar Lodge Care Home has been rocking and jiving this week with the return of our residential care home entertainer, Barry Jukes.

Barry has many years’ experience gracing us with his musical talents as Cedar Lodge’s go-to singer. However, sadly his visits to residential, nursing and dementia care homes in Evesham have been curtailed throughout the pandemic. Now, with the easing of restrictions and each of our residents in receipt of their coronavirus booster vaccine, we’re delighted to welcome Barry back to entertain us once more.

This week, Barry brought along his state-of-the-art sound system to accompany an assortment of classic tracks from the 1950s and beyond.

The afternoon kicked off with country anthem ‘Jambalaya’ by Gerry & The Pacemakers, followed by Frank Sinatra’s ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’. The rendition from Old Blue Eyes was a favourite with the audience, who then requested Cliff Richard as well as country crooner Willie Nelson with his famous ‘Always On My Mind’.

By the time Barry had got on to the Monkees with ‘I’m a Believer’, the party was in full swing. Everyone was singing along. A few brave residents even got up to dance. ‘It’s Not Unusual’ by Tom Jones had an equally rapturous reception. A new resident even delivered a beautifully presented solo performance!

At Cedar Lodge, we’re fortunate to be a family-run care home of only 19 beds & en suites. Our intimate size means Barry can remember the name of each of our residents; and this creates great banter between him and the audience.

The performance was also enjoyed by individuals at Cedar Lodge who receive specialist dementia care. Music is an excellent stimulus for people living with Dementia. Many homes that deliver the highest standard of residential & nursing care will incorporate music into these individuals’ daily routine. Overall, Barry put on an award-winning show for our residential home. It’s an event that brings everyone together and we can’t wait for our next singalong.

So, if you’re in the heart of the village and you hear a jazzy number, and our care home is close by, we may be having a jive with Barry! We promise to keep the noise down!
