On the first Sunday of December, 6 excited residents (and a few volunteers!) left Cedar Lodge to make the 30minute journey to Leamington Spa. Our destination was the Royal Spa Centre, which was staging a matinee performance of Cinderella.

We spent the journey playing Frank Sinatra while admiring Warwickshire’s rolling country scenery. We also discussed the last times we had each been to Leamington. For many of us, we hadn’t visited in 10 or more years, but the unanimous feeling was that the famous spa town still had great shopping! Despite the odd u-turn, we were at the theatre in no time at all, and made our way into the bustling auditorium where there were plenty of theatre-goers both young and old.

The play set off to an explosive start, with pyrotechnics lighting up the sides of the stage. The actors wasted no time getting down to entertainment, with songs, dances and bawdy jokes a plenty. Cedar Lodge’s residents got stuck-in too – cheering, clapping and heckling ‘he’s behind you!’ on cue. We were wowed by a mechanical horse which flew Cinderella around the stage, and screamed as the Fairy God Mother soaked the audience with an impromptu water gun.

Everybody had a wonderful time, and it was a wonderful way to get everybody into the Christmas spirit. A sincere thank you to everyone who made the trip happen – including our kind supporters in the local community who donate to our residents fund. We are truly grateful.

Our residents returned home to enjoy a Sunday roast and glass of wine – the end to a perfect day!
